Lecture 'The Temptation of St Anthony' from Grünewald to Witkacy

"The Temptation of St Anthony" from Grünewald to Witkacy
Lecturer: Bishop Michał Janocha

The lecture is linked to the exhibition on 'The Temptation of Witkacy' at the Museum of the Archdiocese of Warsaw.

The visual works of one of the most outstanding Polish artists of the first half of the 20th century, Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (1885-1939), who used the artistic pseudonym Witkacy from 1917 onwards, are not only visually striking, but also reveal intellectual resources.

One of the most important themes in his work is existential issues, also - his attitude to the Christian tradition. Although Witkacy declared himself to be a non-believer, he often referred to biblical motifs, although he generally presented them in a rather controversial way.
