Empty Bodies - performance

"Empty Bodies is a collage-like performance, where poetic images alluding to the theme of mother-child relations are intertwined with motifs taken from the lives of three women, each struggling in her own way with issues of corporeality. To whom does the body belong as a sexual object? How does the body internalise the sense of rejection, why does the lack of intimacy take away the voice and the right of self-determination? What when the body no longer meets expectations, when it becomes empty? Can it be repaired? How do we function in a world of perfect, skinny bodies that need to be ironed out, rid of wrinkles and other traces of life? Can a body that has access to fertility and inner potential become an effect of production, an object that can be transformed?

"Empty Bodies" is a performance about the longing for connection with our primal nature, for closeness with a mother who cuddles. It is also a performance about hunger and emptiness, which are the price we pay for an ideal 'plastic' world: with an exhausted mother who cannot feed her children. It is a world where coldness, distance and empty spaces blow. We stand on the brink of ecological extinction, and the ground we walk on becomes dry and barren.

Note: There are elements of nudity in the performance - in one scene the dancers are topless and there are strobe lights.
