The play is set in the mid-19th century, at a time of shaky authoritarian rule in Europe and bubbling revolutionary and national liberation movements. All it takes is a spark to lead to a pan-European explosion. Will it be ignited by Aldridge, setting audiences' hearts aflame with his Shakespearean roles? Are his performances part of a conspiracy? Can Shakespeare and theatre change the world? And will the world revolution begin in industrial Lodz? Combining the qualities of a historical-political thriller, detective story and heroic epic, the musical is a tale of love, rebellion and, above all, theatre.
