Nature lecture on urban breeding birds.
During the meeting, our guest will be Dr Krzysztof Janus - ornithologist and chiropterologist, professionally involved in education and nature conservation. During the lecture, Dr Janus will talk about the results of several years of field research conducted in Warsaw, Łódź, Skierniewice and Grodzisk Mazowiecki. We will learn which urban bird species are most vulnerable to predator pressure, why open nesting birds are more vulnerable than cavity-nesting birds, and what factors may increase bird diversity in urban environments.
In the second part of the meeting, we will talk about ways to support bird populations in cities - from appropriate landscaping to reducing predator activity (including domestic cats) to setting up nest boxes and other conservation measures.
Expert:
Krzysztof Janus - lecturer at SWPS, expert in ornithology, nature educator, author of numerous environmental expertises. Author of doctoral thesis entitled. "The influence of nest predation on breeding success and bird density in urban areas", defended at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. He specialises in the study of urban avifauna and interspecies interactions, especially the influence of predators - such as magpies and grey crows - on the breeding success of other birds.

About the cycle:
Every last Tuesday of the month, we invite renowned experts to share their knowledge of the nature around us and its conservation in a way that everyone can understand. They provide facts and dispel myths. At the meetings, the experts share their many years of observations of the natural world, talk about scientific research and the challenges we face as individuals and society as a whole in the context of climate change. After the lectures, we invite you to ask questions of the presenter(s). Let's ask at the source!
