Błażej Krajewski is a stand-performer from Bydgoszcz born on 4 June 1990.
Blazej Krajewski - a man of many trades
Błażej Krajewski grew up in the Fordon district of Bydgoszcz, where he used to make his classmates laugh even in his youth. In his school days he was regarded as the class clown and tried to maintain a good atmosphere during lessons, which made him disliked by his teachers. He was not very popular at school, which was not helped by his speech impediment. He studied history, but after completing his bachelor's degree, he did a course in accountancy and stayed in that line of work. He also grasped other professions. Among other things, he was a children's entertainer, a caretaker in the prosecutor's office, a rock-climbing instructor and a carpenter. He has worked in a hypermarket and more recently in a bank.
Blazej Krajewski - fan of dubbing and American comedies
At university, Błażej Krajewski met a friend with whom he produced funny films for the internet under the Qski Production banner - including the then-popular series "WTF? You won't get it anyway". He was fascinated by American comedies. He adored Will Ferrell, while among stand-up comedians he was impressed by Pablo Francisco and Louis C.K. He was interested in dubbing, imitating the voices of his flatmates and famous people, which he listened to while running. Paradoxically, he was helped in his studies by chronic throat problems.
Blazej Krajewski - first stand-up
In December 2013, vegan pub 1138 hosted one of the first open mic events in Bydgoszcz. In addition to Blazej Krajewski, Paweł Górka, a local ventriloquist and budding politician, performed on stage. The stand-uper won the competition, although he was not yet aware that he was doing stand-up that day. After his successful debut, it was time for a cold shower, as at the next few open mics Blazej was met with a wall of silence in the auditorium. He had the opportunity to perform in front of well-known comedians coming to town, but was shy about going on stage.
Blazej Krajewski mimics voices from the stage
For the next three years, he only performed twice a month, and treated the shows as an after-work extra. As he recalls, he would often get on a train at 5 p.m. and travel to another city for 5 minutes to show up and get to know the comedy community. He would not admit to his girlfriend that he was not earning money from stand-up, but was even contributing to it. When Blazej Krajewski wasn't doing well on stage, he remembered that he used to pretend to be Ivon's speech synthesiser when he was a student, so he started imitating voices from the stage. It was a turning point in his career. In November 2015, he became the winner of the 2nd Poznań Stand-up Festival, and in January 2016 he won the first Battle of Wrocław. Along with other stand-ups, he has also appeared on Comedy Central.
Blazej Krajewski - Stand-up Poland
Blazej Krajewski joined Stand-up Poland in January 2017 and went on his first Grand Tour. At the end of the tour he was scheduled to perform in Poznań, where he made a furore. There he pretended to be not only Ivona, but also a patois from Bydgoszcz, Wojciech Cejrowski, Hugo from Polsat and Bogusław Linda. In May, the footage was published on YouTube and instantly conquered the internet. To date, it has been viewed more than 7 million times, making it one of the most popular Polish stand-up videos and the most popular video on the Stand-up Poland channel. He has been running a stage in Bydgoszcz with Piotr Popek since October 2017 and another on his own since May 2018.
Blazej Krajewski - Publicity
Pretend voices became his blessing and his curse. Ivona helped him fill the halls and audiences felt disappointed when they did not hear his talent live. On the other hand, he feared being pigeonholed and wanted to move on. In his performances, he imitated more voices - those of Karol Strasburger, Johnny Bravo or Zenon Martyniuk. He has performed in major collaborative tours such as 6×7, Stand-up Tour, Stand-up Composition and Please, Stand-up! With his show Rozgłos he has visited not only Poland, but also the UK, Norway, Germany or Ireland. The launch of his first full-length show was also a great success. Nearly 4 million views attest not only to Blazej's mimetic skills, but also to his typically comedic talent. Currently, Blazej Krajewski is touring with the programme Komedia Pomyłek.
